Booking

  • All walks must be booked in advance and are available Wednesdays – Sundays, throughout the year.
  • Walking an alpaca allows you to walk YOUR VERY OWN ALPACA for the entirety of the walk.
  • Sharing an alpaca means you walk your alpaca for half the walk and swap with someone else at the halfway point. This is only available in conjunction with another walk as per point 5 below.
  • Accompanying a walker entitles you to walk alongside an alpaca walker but not to walk an alpaca yourself.
  • Alpacas are herd animals so a minimum of 2 alpacas must be booked for each walk. We can only cater for a maximum of 6 alpacas at the moment.
  • It is possible to accommodate single walkers but only in conjunction with another group so as to always have a minimum of 2 alpacas walking.
  • It is important at the time of booking that we know if any of those walking have any health limitations or health issues that we should be aware of. Where possible, we are very happy to modify the walk or distance in a way that accommodates any health concerns.

About the Walk

  • Walks start from the smallholding. We are not an “open farm” and can only offer alpaca walks by prior arrangement.
  • The walk is about 2.5 miles in length and lasts about an hour and a half including the talk at the beginning and a break at the halfway point.
  • Walks are at 10am and 4pm during British Summer Time, and 10am and 2pm during Winter.
  • Sensible footwear is a must (wellies or walking boots) and we strongly recommend long trousers.
  • Clothing should be appropriate for the conditions but please avoid long skirts or anything that might flap.
  • We have stringent bio-security so we will ask you to dip your footwear on arrival.
  • We have a strict no dog policy on the farm or walk.
  • Alpacas are like us and won’t be happy to walk in bad weather. If we defer due to bad weather or other unforeseen circumstances (such as staff illness), we will rebook at a suitable time thereafter.
  • We can cater for educational visits, hen parties or special events – please contact us for details.

Children

  • All children must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Children must be over 7 years old to walk an alpaca on their own.
  • Children aged 5 to 7 may accompany the walk providing that each child is accompanied by an adult. No children under 5 years old are allowed on walks.

Health and Safety

  • All reasonable precautions are taken to ensure the safety and well-being of both visitors and alpacas, however, Oriontree shall not assume liability whatsoever for any personal injury or loss or damage to personal property.
  • Medical care is the financial responsibly of the ill/injured person(s).
  • Your safety and the safety of others is our main concern. You must obey all instructions given at the beginning of the walk.
  • We reserve the right to refuse to allow anyone to continue on a walk if they put themselves or others at risk.
  • To continue to protect ourselves from Covid-19, we are currently unable to offer any bathroom facilities.

Cancellation Policy

  • Walks can be rescheduled at no extra cost up to 72h before your scheduled walk during school holidays and weekends, or up to 24h in advance during term-time weekdays.
  • It is your responsibility to contact us if you are running late. We are not tyrants, we will wait up to 10 minutes after the scheduled walk time in the event anyone is running late. However, if we have received no contact at that point, we will continue the walk without you and consider you a no-show.
